Minor as well as major home renovations can easily be done by yourself if you have some skills and desire. Not all home improvement tasks are easy, but doing the renovation yourself gives great satisfaction. With a little bit of aptitude and the help of tutorials and tutorials, you are able to wallpaper walls, lay panels, and even tile. See how to successfully lay tiles in your kitchen or bathroom

Step one – preparing the subfloor for tiling

If you want to tile, you can’t do it casually. Before you get down to work, you have to clean and prepare the surface on which the tiles are to be placed. Depending on the type of substrate, it is prepared slightly differently. The first basic thing is to clean the surface for tiles with a regular vacuum cleaner and a cloth soaked in alkaline solution and water. After vacuuming and washing, wipe the cleaned section dry, preferably with a cotton cloth that will not leave any hairs or linters. Then apply one to two coats of priming emulsion to the surface. If the surface on the floor is not level or has cracks, apply a self-leveling screed before the emulsion. By leveling the surface, a large bathroom tile, for example, will not be cracked by uneven support

Step two – match the tiles to their purpose

When choosing tiles for your bathroom, kitchen or hallway, a very important consideration is whether the tiles are for the walls or the floor. You may think to yourself, “What’s the difference?” but this is a key distinction. They differ in durability, abrasion resistance, weight resistance and the materials used. Tiles for kitchens need to be abrasion resistant because in this particular room the tiles are often dirty, splashed with food or grease and need to be cleaned regularly. If the high gloss of the tiles is not durable enough, the tiles will quickly lose their shine and become unsightly and dull. The same principle applies to skirting tiles, as not every type of tile is suitable for this application. To ensure that your tiles are as strong and durable as possible after renovation and that you enjoy them for many years to come, always match the right tiles for the intended use

Step three – laying the tiles

Once the right tiles are chosen, you have your dream design, and the surface under the tiles is carefully prepared, you can start tiling. First, arrange your tiles in the configuration you want the final look to be. This will help you plan your workflow better and achieve better results. Install the tiles with the help of special separators, which will help you maintain equal spacing between the tiles. Lay them strictly according to the dimensions and do not deviate from your calculations. That way, you will avoid unnecessary complications, unplanned cutting of tiles, and having to remove tiles to fix your mistakes. Before you lay your tiles, check carefully that they match the pattern, lay properly, and are cut properly

Tiling involves a lot of preparation for the process – measuring, calculating and planning. Additionally, it is a time-consuming and very precise job that requires a great deal of patience. If you want to lay tiles that will please the eye for many years and will not fall off in a few weeks after the work is completed, devote a lot of attention and time to this task
